About YEF

Background

The idea of the Youth Economic Forum started in the aftermath of a series of roundtables a group of young university students and activists had with the Minister of Finance M. Jihad Azour back in 2007. The group wished to create some kind of platform that would institutionalize such discussions between young committed citizens and important policymakers, keeping the frame of the institution independent, non partisan and as open as possible, hence the Forum label to it. The NGO was launched from the Serail in October 2007 as a sign from the authorities that they encourage Youth initiatives related to state affairs.

Founded in October 2007 by a group of young experts and activists, the Youth Economic Forum (YEF) constitutes an independent and non partisan platform of discussion and dialogue on economic and social affairs among Lebanese youth and activists specialized in these fields, aiming to bridge the gap between Lebanese young citizens interested in state affairs and official policymakers.

Mission Statement

The YEF created a platform for dialogue on economic and social issues, with the purpose of encouraging constructive debate, promoting active involvement of the youth in economic policymaking, building confidence between youth and the public sector, and increasing oversight on the government and economic-policy making. The YEF also constitutes a platform for the collaboration of youth organizations and interested partners from the public sector, private sector, civil society and international organizations.

Objectives

• Act as a platform for economic dialogue among youth, policymakers and experts from various backgrounds (political and nonpolitical)
• Empower forum members to become aware and committed citizens through knowledge sharing in relation to policy processes related to public finance, public budgeting and socio-economic issues
• Facilitate access of forum members to government training, conferences, and research opportunities
• Facilitate access to public sector archives and relevant information
• Raise recommendations and suggestions to the pertinent policymakers and stakeholders
• Raise awareness of youth on the economic policymaking process and pertinent economic policy issue

يهدف منتدى الشباب الإقتصادي إلى فتح مساحة حوار بين الشباب اللبناني وصانعي القرار حول المسائل الإقتصادية من أجل تشجيع النقاش البناء، وإشراك الشباب في قضايا الشأن العام بشكل فاعل وبناء علاقة الثقة بين الشباب والقطاع العام. آما يتوق المنتدى إلى تعزيز الشفافية في ما يخص العلاقة مع الحكومة وآلية وضع السياسات الإقتصادية للبلاد
منتدى الشباب الاقتصادي هو مساحة للتعاون بين المنظمات الشبابية والشركاء المهتمين من القطاع العام، والقطاع الخاص، والمجتمع المدني والمنظمات الدولية

الأهداف

خلق منبر للحوار الاقتصادي بين الشباب والخبراء والمسؤولين من مختلف الخلفيات السياسية وغير السياسية –
رفع توصيات واقتراحات إلى المسؤولين والمعنيين المختصين –
تمكين أعضاء المنتدى بقضايا المالية عامة وضع الموازنة العامة والمسائل الاجتماعية الاقتصادية –
تسهيل الاستفادة لأعضاء المنتدى من برامج التدريب وحلقات الحوار والأبحاث في القطاع العام –
تسهيل عملية الإطلاع على أرشيف المؤسسات العامة وعلى معلومات أخرى –
توعية الشباب حول آلية وضع السياسات الاقتصادية ومضمونها –

النشاطات المقترحة

تنظيم ندوات وحلقات حوار تجمع الشباب والخبراء والمسؤولين من مختلف الخلفيات السياسية وغير السياسية –
تنظيم جلسات عصف ذهني ودورات استشارية مع المعنيين الاقتصاديين والسياسيين –
إعداد نشرات دورية. وورقات سياساتية –
